Instructions:

Checklist to get a work permit:

  • Receive a job offer from an employer prior to obtaining a work permit
  • Complete a Work Permit Application. Applications are available online - see below, Or at State of California Department of Education form number B1-1; available online at http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/dlseformB1-1.pdf (When school is not in sessions, applications may be picked up at the College & Career Readiness Office)
  • Have employer complete and sign their portion of the application

Work Permits during COVID School Closure

High School Work Permits:  While schools are closed, a new process has been established to issue work permits. 

See process outlined below.

Steps to complete after you have been offered employment:

Process for Electronic Issuing of Work Permits

  1. Student sends completed and signed Intent to Employ (B1-1) form to Job Developer via email. JOb developer will then create Permit to Employ (B1-4)
  2. B1-4 form is  sent to the student to sign and student sends back signed B1-4 to Job Developer.  Once received by Job Developer, the appropriate work permit signer, will sign and confirm attendance​​​ and GPA for permit.
  3. Job Developer sends copy to student with the following instructions:
        • ​​Student keeps electronic copy of the work permit. Student prints out one copy for the employer unless the employer allows for an electronic copy. The student is responsible for submitting the final work permit to the employer.
