Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year Heaton Students and Families!
Our staff is excited to welcome our new and returning students to Heaton for an exciting new school year, and the first day of instruction begins on Wednesday, August 19th!
These are unique times that require us to start our school year with a Distance Learning model, and we plan to make it an engaging, high-quality learning experience for students.
Most importantly is that all students make grade-level academic gains with rigorous, grade-level lessons, and that students receive academic and social-emotional support to be successful during Distance Learning.
Being partners with our parents and guardians is even more important than ever, and here are a few ways you can support us in your child's education. All links can be found on the Fresno Unified website at https://www.fresnounified.org/
- Log into your Parent Portal Account in ATLAS weekly
o Check your child's attendance and grades
o Keep contact information updated in ATLAS, especially phone numbers
- Connect with your child's teacher through Class Dojo, Email and Classroom Websites
- Utilize the Fresno Unified website and sign up to have a device shipped to your home
o Early Learning to 3rd graders receive LCD Tablets
o 4th-6th graders and higher receive laptops
- Make sure your child is logged into Live Instruction on time throughout the school day
- Provide a quiet place in your home for your child's daily online learning
- Pick up breakfast and lunch daily between 7:00a.m. and 9:00a.m. at Heaton or any of the meal distribution sites in Fresno Unified
- To know what is happening at Heaton, connect with School Messenger, Class Dojo and by visiting our Heaton Website; and coming soon, Heaton Facebook and Instagram pages.
We will have materials and supplies distributions throughout the school year to ensure your child has the needed items to be successful in school, and teachers will have updated lessons and important information posted on their Grade Level and Classroom Websites.
Our goal is to continue with as many of the “normal" school-wide activities during Distance Learning, as we would with in-person school. Here are a few ways we plan to do just that virtually!
- After-School Programming—all Heaton TK-6th grade students are welcome to participate during Distance Learning
- Spirit Weeks and Rallies
- Warrior Wednesdays—wear purple to support our Fresno High Region
- Friday Spirit Days—wear red, blue or a Heaton T-shirt
- Morning Meetings
- Virtual Field Trips
- Enrichment Clubs
- Awards Assemblies
- Music Program
- Meaningful Jobs
- Physical Fitness
- Student Leadership
- Kids Invent
- And more!
Listed below are additional ways to be involved at Heaton. The meeting dates will be posted on our Heaton website calendar and shared on our Weekly School Messenger, Facebook, Instagram and Class Dojo pages.
- School Site Council
- English Language Advisory Committee
- Volunteer Opportunities
- Parent & Community Outreach Events
We look forward to seeing our students online soon and connecting with our families!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gemetti
