In 1996, Baird Middle School was born. The students, staff and community saw promise in what a school could become with a mix of rigorous academics, character building and life skills. This dynamic combination of talent, resources and enthusiasm helped our school to be named a California Distinguished School in 1999, 2009, and 2019; a California Gold Ribbon School in 2017; and an AVID Nation Demonstration School from 2011 to the present.
Our students, who come from every neighborhood in our community, thrive in our academically challenging and creative atmosphere. With vision toward future improvements, our Baird community has rolled up their collective sleeves and created a school like no other. The hallmark of our school is kindness. Generous community support has resulted in several gardens on campus, a Peace & Tolerance Plaza, an outdoor amphitheater and an ongoing mosaic tile project that beautifies our buildings and teaches our students about history and culture.
The Baird Library Media Center (LMC) was the first in a long list of building additions to the Baird Campus. The LMC includes our library, a computer lab, conference room and offices for some of Baird's support staff. In the fall of 2015, our new gymnasium opened its doors to the student body. In addition, a state-of-the-art classroom wing was completed in 2016. Our new wing houses two impressive science labs and one agriculture lab, a fully equipped classroom for our ALPS program, as well as three traditional classrooms. In our Ag area behind the wing you will find a small orchard, vineyard, hydroponic towers and 24 raised vegetable beds and potting benches. As you can see, we are continuously exploring new avenues that will provide the best experiences for our children, learning and otherwise. We are a small campus with big ideas.
Please check our website for scheduled tours of our campus where you can explore the many treasures to be found here at Baird. A cup of coffee and friendly conversation await you at our Leslie Giffen Parent Center. Our doors are open – welcome to Baird!
